If the live view is fine until the Explorer goes under, work through these.
1. Camera WiFi on 2.4 GHz, not Automatic. Most action cameras default to 5 GHz, which won’t work with your kit.
- GoPro Hero 13, Mission 1, Mission 1 Pro: Preferences > Wireless Connections > WiFi Band
- GoPro Hero 11 and 12: Preferences > Connections > WiFi Band
- DJI Osmo Action: System Settings > Wireless Connection > WiFi Frequency
Full instructions: Setting Camera WiFi Frequency to 2.4GHz
2. Using a cable reel. Secure the phone in the phone holder mounted to the reel. Check the transmitter, the section on the face of the reel with the WiFi logo on it, is facing upwards and locked into position.
If you’re using your phone or tablet in landscape, turn it so the top edge faces the reel rather than away from it. The WiFi antenna sits along the top edge of most phones and tablets, so pointing it at the transmitter makes a noticeable difference. This matters most with tablets.
3. Using a hand reel. Keep the hand reel as close to your phone as possible, and no more than 0.5m away.
4. Camera in the housing. Make sure the camera is seated correctly in the Explorer housing and the housing is closed properly.
5. Cable. Check for kinks or damage, particularly near each end, and make sure it’s seated properly at both ends.
6. Firmware and app both on current versions.
