Having issues with your DJI Action 5 Pro and Explorer+ Pro Kit?
Use this troubleshooting guide to quickly identify and resolve common problems, from connection issues to overheating.
Camera Settings & Preparation
Set the camera to Video mode โ DisplayPort output only works when the camera is in Video mode, not Photo or Playback.
Turn down screen brightness โ The display remains active during DisplayPort output, so reducing brightness helps minimise power consumption and prevents reflections on the Explorer+ lens.
Wait after powering on โ Let the camera sit for 5โ10 seconds after powering on before connecting any cables.
Correct Connection Sequence
Connecting things in the right order is essential. Follow these steps:
Power on the DJI Action 5 Pro and set it to Video mode
Insert the 180ยฐ USB-C DisplayPort adapter into the camera
Plug the Explorer+ Media Cable into the adapter
Connect the other end of the Media Cable to your TV, monitor, or capture device
Manually switch your screen to the correct HDMI input
If Thereโs No Signal on Screen
Try the following steps if your monitor or TV isnโt picking up the camera signal:
Unplug and replug the HDMI cable at the screen end
Restart the camera, unplug and reinsert the USB-C adapter
Manually switch HDMI inputs on your TV or monitor
Try using a different screen or a different HDMI cable, if available
Common Causes & Fixes
No signal on the screen:
This usually happens when the connection sequence is wrong. Make sure the camera is powered on and set to video mode before connecting anything else. Always select the correct input on your display manually.
Flickering or signal dropping out:
This is typically caused by a loose USB-C connection. Ensure the adapter is firmly plugged into the camera and the Media Cable is fully seated on both ends. Use strain relief to avoid cable tension at the camera.
Random black screens or cut-outs:
These can be caused by power instability. Try powering the camera with a stable USB-C power supply or test it using battery-only mode to see if the issue improves.
Inconsistent signal detection (works sometimes, not always):
This can be a handshake issue between the camera and the display. Reboot the camera and screen, unplug and reconnect the adapter and cable, and try again.
Lower the Screen Brightness
Since the screen remains on during DisplayPort output, it contributes to internal heat.
Reduce the screen brightness in the camera settings to minimise power draw and heat build-up.
Limit Unnecessary Features
Turn off any features youโre not using to reduce processor load and internal heat:
Stabilisation (RockSteady)
Voice control
Wi-Fi/Bluetooth (if not needed for your current setup)
Keep External Power Stable
If powering the camera via USB-C:
Use a clean, stable USB-C power source
Avoid cheap or noisy power banks, as unstable voltage can increase heat
Keep It Submerged
Keeping the Explorer+ housing and camera underwater will naturally help manage heat.
Water rapidly dissipates heat from the camera body, especially during longer shoots or warm weather conditions. If used out of water for extended periods, overheating is more likely.
Update Firmware
Ensure your DJI Action 5 Pro has the latest firmware installed, as DJI often includes thermal performance improvements in updates.
Use Anti-Fog Silica Packs
Place a silica gel pack (e.g. Explorer Anti-Fog Packs) inside the housing, behind the camera. These absorb moisture and help prevent condensation forming during temperature shifts.
Make sure the pack is dry (replace or recharge if it feels damp)
Use one 10g pack per use for best results
Reseal housing quickly after placing the pack inside
Keep the Lens Clean and Treated
Before use:
Wipe the inside of the lens with a clean, dry microfiber cloth
Use a reliable anti-fog spray or wipe (eg. Gear Aid) to help prevent condensation
Allow the spray to dry completely before sealing the housing
Avoid touching the lens with fingers โ oils can worsen fogging
Avoid Trapping Humid Air
Fogging often occurs when warm, humid air is sealed inside the housing.
Always assemble the kit in a cool, dry environment if possible
Avoid closing the housing immediately after the camera has been running warm
Let the camera cool before sealing it inside
Gradual Temperature Acclimatisation
When moving between temperature extremes (e.g. from a warm vehicle to cold water):
Let the camera and housing sit in ambient air for a few minutes before sealing
Avoid immediate submersion โ sudden temperature shifts encourage fogging
